District Governor
                Gary Norris, Salina, KS
After graduation from Bethany College with a BA in Music Education and Kansas State University with a
MS and PhD in Educational Leadership, I was fortunate to serve as superintendent of schools in six
school districts, in four states, ranging in size from 440 students to 43,000 students. In addition to my
superintendent experience, I served 10 years as a choral music teacher, Principal and a high school
As an educational leader, I was very active in state policy and legislative issues in Kansas, Florida and
Iowa. My advocacy at the state level has included, but is not limited to, school finance, school
governance, flexibility for innovation and federal policy interpretation.
Upon retirement, Julie and I moved back to Salina, Kansas. In March 2015, I joined a local real estate
team, and began a new phase in my life. I am enjoying assisting current and future Salina residents with
their real estate needs.
I have been a Rotarian for the past 30 years in four different Rotary Clubs: The Rotary Club of Hibbing,
Minnesota; Vero Beach Rotary Club, Vero Beach, Florida, Rotary Club of Salina, Kansas; Waterloo
Downtown Club, Waterloo, Iowa. I went through the officer chairs in Vero Beach, FL and Salina, KS and
was President of the Salina Club in 1998-1999.
A few of my favorite Rotary experiences have been: Attending the RI Convention in Singapore, serving
as President of the largest club in District 5670, Hosting a Rotary homestay in Florida for a Governor and
his spouse from Sweden, Waterloo’s Nicaragua shoe box and winter coat projects, helping plan Salina’s
Russian exchange program, participating in Group Study Exchange a number of times, and with several
clubs, being nominated as Governor nominee in District 5670, and attending hundreds of Rotary social
